Cozy Corners and Culinary Delights

A Winter Retreat in Blue Hill with History, Hospitality, and Heart

Winter is a lovely time to explore the Blue Hill area with Barncastle Hotel & Restaurant as your base…or you can do as we did and hunker down for a couple of days to relax in the cozy spaces and enjoy the delicious food owners Lizzie and Chef Owen create.

The couple took over Barncastle during the pandemic and were immediate darlings in the community offering a welcoming bar, live music and years of experience in the hospitality world. Their Bernese Mountain Dog, Leroy, is a pro at keeping your feet warm as you sit by the fire and read your copy of edible MAINE.

The five rooms and suites are spacious and beautifully appointed, each with a unique personality. After a full meal under Chef Owen’s talented hand, it feels wonderful to fall into bed after only one flight of stairs. Your stay includes a continental breakfast with hot coffee, homemade granola, morning breads and more. Chef Owen shares his impressive collection of vinyl in the breakfast room—it is up to you what tunes you want to wake up to!

Barncastle’s history stretches back to 1830 and has attracted presidents and European royalty…and even had a turn as a Lincoln dealership and showroom. You can feel the spirit of its many iterations when you stay here. Our favorite bragging right is of the first bathtub in all of Blue Hill; it was made of solid cast iron and took ten men to carry it to the second floor.

In order to celebrate locals during the winter months, Lizzie is offering 10% off of one night stay and 15% off two nights through the end of March; prices are reflected when you book on their site or call. We recommend joining them for Maine Restaurant Week (March 1-12) and extend your stay to explore the area.

We loved our winter stay at Barncastle and hope you do too.
